Just in case you missed last months designer profile, here it is for you!

  • Please tell us about yourself and your company
  • My name is Christel Hadiwibawa and I’m the owner of Christelh. Christelh is a creative studio that specialises in the design and creation of high end furniture products for both commercial and residential use.

  • How old is your design company?
  • The studio has been around for 1.5 years.

  • What does you company specialise in?
  • Christelh currently focuses on furniture/product/lighting

  • Please name the top three things you use in your everyday life.
  • - my phone

    - my diary/journal

    - my brain (when it works)

  • What is your favourite piece from your collection to date? Why?
  • I have a couple of favourite pieces to date but probably Trey Lamp – as it required no machinery use, implemented everyday materials which to me brings out the honesty to a piece and shows evidence of hand work and simplicity.

  • Do you have any words of wisdom for fellow young Australian Designers who are trying to get into the market?
  • Hmmm…. best advice would be to be a learning machine, read and learn all you can about the design industry but don’t get lost in it, network, and be honest to yourself and the work that you do. Longevity.

  • Where can people find your designs?
  • You can find my work online www.christelh.com – the shelving units Kembla and Junior can be seen on display at Style Plantation Sydney Showroom (http://www.styleplantation.com.au/)

  • What does Australian design mean to you?
  • When I think of Australian design, I think of youthful maturity. In a sense that the industry here is still growing and evolving, but at the same time it also has a level of maturity.

  • What is currently playing in your CD player/iPod/iTunes?
  • Greg Laurie and the biography of Steve Jobs.

  • Is there a design event you look forward to every year? If so, what is it and why?
  • Milan Furniture Fair (Salone Internazionale del Mobile) – the worlds largest home design exhibition. I have never been there myself (yet) but from what I’ve heard, read, and viewed, its pretty awesome to experience the celebration of the latest pieces from leading companies/designers from all over the world.

  • What’s next for your design company?
  • The plan is for possible collaborations as well as setting up efficient systems of distributing products.

  • Describe your creative style in three words
  • Playful sophistication (I know that’s two but I haven’t thought of a third word yet)

    Designer Profile

January 10, 2012 in Designer Profile

We are very excited to present to you the first Designer Profile for 2012……. Christelh, please be sure to check it out when you have a moment.

The tilt range designed by Christelh was featured in our blog at the beginning of December 2011.

For those of you who missed out on December’s Designer Profile – Bambi Designs, please see below!

  • Please tell us about yourself and your company
  • Bambi Designs creates handmade, unique, one-off and limited release jewellery and accessories in Australia. Each piece is designed and handcrafted by Amber Kelly, a self taught artisan based in Sydney. Pieces in the range include Rings, Pendants, Brooches and Earrings made from brass, charms, resin, found objects and fabrics that I help to find a new home and become a treasured item to last a lifetime. Using colourful papers and vintage inspired fabrics, there’s a piece to suit everyone and none will ever be exactly the same. I just love the process of creating! From having a spark of an idea, to research and development, to lots and lots of trial and error resulting in a finished piece to be proud of. I’m constantly experimenting with new techniques, attending courses and refining current products.

  • How old is your design company?
  • Bambi designs officially began about 2 years ago but I started creating jewellery many years before that.

  • Please name the top three things you use in your everyday life.
  • My camera! Being a photographer by trade makes it much easier for me to promote my pieces
My computer. I’m always searching the internet for other up and coming Australian designers or events to support. My notebook. I’ve always been a big list maker and take it with me everywhere. I write down everything from business planning ideas, inspirational websites, images and product sketches. Although sometimes it may look like there is no order to it at all, I find it very helpful when it’s time to collate all my ideas and create!

  • What is your favourite piece from your collection to date? Why?
  • I still love the very first Vintage Pendant and ring I made because the new techniques I used opened up a whole new range of jewellery for Bambi Designs. The intricate detailing of the brass and porcelain mosaic creates a piece that is truly unique and a style that is not widely seen in Australia today.

  • Where can people find your designs?
  • I’m currently using my Bambi Designs Facebook page to promote my business and as a place to purchase my designs.

  • What does Australian design mean to you?
  • It’s very important to me to support Australian designers. I believe in buying handmade, high quality jewellery and clothing as opposed to mass produced pieces. I love having original accessories that help me express my individuality!

  • What is currently playing in your CD player/iPod/iTunes?
  • Angus and Julia Stone, Sarah Blasko and Crowded House to name a few. I’m also a big fan of Australian music!

  • Is there a design event you look forward to every year? If so, what is it and why?
  • I love going to markets that share my beliefs in locally designed and produced products. Young Blood Designers Market and Finders Keepers are two I enjoy visiting every year. You’re always sure to find something new and interesting there.
